The forms required for the application are available on the DESE Grant Funding Opportunities webpage (look for Fund Code 418). The application is due annually in June with notifications in July.
The Innovation Career Pathways designation confers membership in a community of practice. This group of peers convenes regularly (officially, via structured workshops/webinars, and informally) to exchange ideas and tackle shared challenges. Wherever you are in the development and implementation of your program, you will have access to events, curated resources, and coaching that is designed to support you each step of the way in the process of creating pathways that improve opportunities and outcomes for your students.
The budget form embedded in the application presents the categories for acceptable use of funds for both planning and implementation dollars.
The Massachusetts Skills Capital Grant Program, administered by the Executive Office of Education, supports the purchase and installation of equipment, related improvements and renovations, for programs such as Innovation Career Pathways that are aligned to regional economic and workforce development priorities for in-demand industries. This is a competitive grant, and the application process is distinct from the application for Innovation Career Pathways.
Innovation Career Pathways are supported by grant funding. Applicants who receive the ICP designation are eligible to apply for one-time award dollars to support implementation that are to be utilized within the fiscal year of the award. At this point there is no continuation funding available to support programs beyond the period of the implementation grant. A number of avenues are being explored for future funding, but there are no guarantees that any of these will become available.
For those awarded funds through the competitive process, up to $25,000 per LEA will be available for planning in a typical year.
Since the inception of Innovation Career Pathways, there have been efforts at the highest levels to secure a sustainable funding source for this programming, and at DESE we continue to endeavor to illustrate pathway programs’ impact. As an applicant or designee you are encouraged to broadcast student experience and outcomes, and you are always welcome to invite your community, inclusive of local elected officials, to learn about your programs.
The application process for planning grant funding is competitive. For Innovation Career Pathways, the district will be the applicant and the fiscal agent to access the planning grant funds. Preference may be given to applicants who have not received funding for Innovation Career Pathways in the past.
Districts that receive a Final Designation for a pathway will be eligible to apply for implementation funds. Note – there is a separate application process for this grant funding. Please refer to the information posted on the DESE Innovation Career Pathways webpage and the the DESE Grant Funding Opportunities webpage. The maximum award for newly designated programs in FY24 was $75,000.
