Questions related to internships, capstones, and other work-based learning experiences that are a fundamental part of Innovation Career Pathways programs

How should we address any legal/regulatory questions regarding students doing work-based learning experiences and when should we conduct CORI checks on the employers and their employees who are involved with internships?

How do people track the student’s 100 hours? Where did the 100 hours come from and how crucial is it to reach?

Can Massachusetts students participate in internships in other states?

How should we assess work-based learning (capstones and/or internships)?

What are capstones, as distinct from internships?

In our pathways, students intern with external partners. These internships may require the use of materials the district has purchased (at least some times with grant funds). Are we able to charge the partners for the cost of the materials used in the internship program? What if our students create something that a business partner sells or uses in some way to make a profit?

Are Innovation Career Pathway designee schools required to provide paid internships to students?

Are remote work-based learning options permissible within Innovation Career Pathways?

Is it required to provide course credit for work-based learning experiences? And, how does credit get assigned for work-based learning experience?

Can the 100 hours of work-based learning required for Innovation Career Pathways take place during the summer?
